Overton County 4-H is looking for members active in specific hobbies/project areas to compete at project achievement day!
Project achievement day is May 13th and will highlight youth from Area 2 4-H that enjoy 4-H work.
Youth must register by May 4th with their extension agent, nmarrero@utk.edu, to be able to participate.
Any youth wishing to practice may come to a meeting on May 4th at 5:00 PM at the UT/TSU Extension Overton Office to practice.
We have included some helpful links and information you can use to prepare.

4th and 5th grade demonstrations should be 2-5 minutes in length.
WE HAVE MANY FREE POSTERS FOR YOU TO USE. LET US KNOW WHEN YOU ARE COMING AND WE WILL PUT THEM IN THE FRONT OFFFICE.
Youth will be allowed an additional 3 minutes TOTAL for set-up and take down. This includes technology set up. Think: 1.5 minutes set up, 1.5 minutes take down.
Competition is by project, not by grade.
Competition ends at sub-region.
Presentation can be a demonstration or illustrated presentation.
If the member goes over set up, clean up and/or presentation, 1 point is deducted for every 30 seconds.
If the member is under 2 minutes for the presentation, 5 points will be deducted.
We can send 2 youth per project.
- You must have one of the following:
- 1-6 Posters
- 1-6 Slides
- If a powerpoint/canva/other presentation is used, it will have to be saved in a PDF format and e-mailed to nmarrero@utk.edu early.
- You can print your slides and bring them to the contest and give them to the judges. This will be used if technical difficulties occur.
- No music, videos, or special effects or animations should be on the slides.
- The computers can ONLY run PDFs.
- 1 Tri-fold
- Youth must have at least one prop that they use.
No live animals, babies, fireworks, weapons or anything banned or prohibited at school. Youth in shooting sports will have to get creative but can ask their project leader for help.
Demonstrations should relate to one of the 29 4-H projects.
- Computers/Technology Project may use additional technology beyond what is stated, but it must relate to your presentation.
- Equipment and software must be provided beyond Adobe PDF’s and the projector that the contest will provide.
No team demonstrations.
No audience participation.
Do not use name brands or labels
Family Assistance – family members can help bring items to the table for the 4-H member, but there is not assistance from family members for set up/take down. 4-H member must be able to set up and take down own equipment for the presentation
- Up to 3 Jr. High members will compete per project area.
- Up to 2 Sr, High members will compete per project area
- WE HAVE MANY FREE TRI-FOLD BOARDS FOR YOU TO USE. LET US KNOW IF YOU ARE COMING AND WE WILL GIVE IT TO YOU.
- Youth may only compete in one project area. They can’t make multiple displays.
- The display contest has everyone set up their displays before the contest starts. There are 30-60 kids typically set up across the contest.
- When the judges reach you, you will have 1-2 minutes to explain your whole exhibit.
- The judges will then have 2-3 minutes to ask questions.
- This is not a demonstration.
- The display is anything you’ve learned about your project in the past year or could be a specific project you did for the contest.
- Display should showcase knowledge gained, a technique learned, or skills learned.
- 4-H members will each have 3 feet (1/2 of a six-foot table), to set up on. Free standing tri-fold board exhibits should be used.
- Space from the table to the floor may be used.
- Nothing besides the table is provided.
- If technology is used, it is only a supplement to your visual and provides no auditory support. It does not replace your exhibit board
- Props should support the display.
- Word 4-H or the 4-H emblem should be on the display.
- No live animals, babies, fireworks, weapons or anything banned or prohibited at school.
- Contest ends at sub-regionals. All Star members may use their board at Roundup.
