Overton 4-H sent four youth to compete for college scholarships at Tennessee 4-H Roundup, held on the University of Tennessee’s campus in Martin in July.

Four local members competed for college scholarships. Emma Thompson competed in Creative Arts and Design, and Mary Rhoades competed in Communications and Public Speaking. Mary’s work is also being reviewed for possible college course credit through the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

Katelyn Rhoades was a Senior High Level I winner in performing arts and recreation, earning a $500 college scholarship to UTK and the Horizon Award. Her work stood out because of her immense experience in acting and dancing. She also helped others in 2025 get into acting with her acting day camp.

Sophie Thompson was a Senior High Level II winner in culinary arts, earning a UTK college scholarship, a silver bowl, Leula Lee Medallion, and a trip to National 4-H Congress in Atlanta. One of her programs she showcased was her spring break day camp conducted with a 4-H program assistant.

We are so proud of these members for their work. Being a finalist in portfolios highlights how 4-H help youth develop their talents, serve others, and prepare for college and careers.
