Overton 4-H Honor Club Celebrates New School Year

Overton County’s 4-H Honor Club met Monday, Sept. 28, 2026, for its first meeting of the school year. The evening focused on friendship, service, leadership, and learning more about the 4-H program.

Members began with a fellowship activity that encouraged them to meet three new people and learn more about one another.

For the citizenship and service project, members assembled 23 birthday cake boxes for the local food pantry. These boxes will help families celebrate birthdays with cake mixes and other supplies.

As part of the leadership portion of the meeting, members painted rocks to promote 4-H during National 4-H Week. The rocks will be hidden throughout the community this weekend and will direct finders to the club’s Facebook or Instagram pages, where they can share their discoveries. Everyone who participates in the social media activity will be entered into a prize drawing. Some members also recorded 4-H promotional videos to be shared during the following week.

Youth also learned about the purpose of Honor Club and what they can expect during the coming year.

Families interested in joining 4-H or 4-H Honor Club are encouraged to contact the Extension Office for more information. Youth may join 4-H beginning in fourth grade, while Honor Club begins in sixth grade. Members must apply for state Honor Club recognition within one year of joining the program.

Honor Club uses Remind and Band to keep members and parents informed about upcoming meetings and activities. The next meeting will be held October 26 at Cedar Lake Camp.
